Open Question: How bad is it to have a negative hit on your credit report? How bad would repossessing a car hurt my credit?

My ex boyfriend needed a new car, so I co-signed on the car loan for me. Now he has lost his job and can't make the car loan payment. I don't want a negative hit on my credit report, but I also don't want to pay his bills either. He has had the car for a year now, so I thought about refinancing it to take my name off and look if he can have the loan in his name also since no one else will sign for him instead of me. If I can't refinance it, what should I do???

Open Question: Can I get a $3,000 personal loan with bad credit with a good co-signer?

I've read through some of the other loan questions but never found this one specifically, which pertains to my situation. Anyway, I'll just give some background and what I'm looking for in an answer. I moved out to another town and worked a job for a couple of months. Things were going good until I got laid off. I was working full time, but didn't know I was getting laid off and contacted the temp agency I was working for 1 day too tardy to qualify for unemployment. Anyway, I'm moving back to my old town since there are virtually NO full time jobs here (I've spent about a month and a half looking) and I need money again. Well, in my old town I found a full time job for $15 an hour and can start as soon as I receive home. Problem is, I have nowhere to stay and live and no money to receive a place. Normally, I wouldn't care and would probably grab a tent from a family member and camp out, working a few weeks until I have the money for an apartment again. But it's winter time, and that's pretty much impossible without freezing to death up here in Minnesota. I have kinda bad credit, I made some mistakes when I turned 18, but I've been fixing it (it takes a long time I've figured out). I'm 21 now, and haven't had any tardy payments on anything in over 2 years, but my score is still kinda low. My pal has offered to co-sign a personal loan for me to buy a winter beater car (roughly $300-500) and receive an apartment. The state limit is a minimum $3,000 for a personal loan. So I'll be asking for a $3,000 loan. I plan on getting an apartment, some food and the cheap car with the money, and using the relax to start paying the loan back. My question is, with the following information: -Loan is $3,000 -pal has successfully paid off a $13,000 car loan and now has a $28,000 car loan, which he is paying -pal has never missed a payment in his 5 years of credit building -I have needy credit at the moment -I have a job full time (50 or so hours a week) at $15 an hour Do you think I'll qualify for the loan with his signature? Thank you thenemo12003. But I am a bit puzzled at your first sentence. I mentioned I have bad credit, and by bad I mean lower 600's. Do you mean that with a cosigner as well I "also" need a 700 or better? Or are you talking about my pal. He has a mid 700 score so I should be fine there. Just asking for clarification is every. Oh I guess I also forgot to add we have pretty good financial history together. When he was down on his luck once with a car break down I loaned him about $1,400 to repair his vehicle (this was before his first newer car). I've also borrowed a couple hundred from him before and paid him back promptly. I've always had a full time job and money until now because I was just recently laid off. But I already found a new job.

Open Question: Dilemma about living situation? This is serious, I feel extremely doomed.?

This is a poverty and self preservation level of concern: My mom moved out whole family to a gang infested, crime infested, cops and robbers area, with drugs etc...she has NO moral values whatsoever. I am a double major in college and my car just got stolen right after I put about two months income into getting it running again, so I've had to drop out of school and to receive another job I thought about psoting an add on craigslsit asking people to help, one thing I did was I asked if anyone wanted to share a room so that we could keep rent and I could move away from here and go to school and no one is replying except perverts and people writing one line insults, and I've also thought about looking for jobs on line but IT NEVER GOES ANYWHERE, the jobs, nor the room mates!! ????, I don't feel as though I have any other choice, how else can I go anywhere? I've tried taking the bus in the past and I was assaulted and left stranded etc.....the area is bad. I also got my identity stolen and they took my financial aid award etc....opened credit cards in my name. I only have about $500 a month for rent. I have already finished quite a bit of classes at a 2 year college. I have NOT EVEN ONE pal -> The area is FULL OF THUGS who want to rape and kill you. No girls to store with, no one to hang out with. I am unhappy as one can imgaine and lonely, and my mom says it's fine if I'm stuck with her , and she says I can just be her home keeper and she said I don't need to go to school because she has a mental disability and wants her kids to wait on her hand and foot. I'm very frustrated and I look everyone else going to school.

Open Question: Can I get away with a new laptop with accidental insurance?

I was told by more then a few people who work with customer service at computer stores like circuit city, where i bought my laptop. Now generally I am a person who obeys the law and does everything the "right and moral" way. However, I am not very wealthy and when I bought my laptop from them, it took me nearly a year to pay off my parents for helping me to receive it. It cost about 1200 with the insurance. Its an Acer Aspire 5100, while its not a "Bad" laptop, it is not nearly as good as i thought it was when i bought it, as in I didnt do my research good enough. Anyways, getting to the point. I have about 6 months left on my insurance policy that covers free repair of the laptop, as well as a free replacement of the laptop if it is unrepairable. If the laptop is not repairable and needs to be replaced, then they will give me another one of the same laptop, or credit towards another one. The thing is, I am pretty sure this laptop is gone from there stores, however I am not completely sure how the replacement policy would work (care to fill in this detail for me if anyone knows). So do I "damage" my laptop and receive it repaired or replaced, or just keep the good karma I have and keep it that way. If I do "damage" my laptop, is there a good way to do it to insure that it will receive replaced (anyone who has actually done this or knows of someone who has. Or even if you are a representitive of a computer seller that has had people bring laptops back with damages so bad they had to be replaced.) I realize this may be considered asking how to rip off a company, or stealing as some would call it. I am asking for opinions only. Hmm, more to think about, and of course laptops arnt easily upgraded... My laptop has dual processors, amd mobile like t52 or something... if i could replace it I would...

Open Question: Bad teacher...do I tell anyone?

My math teacher is terrible. It is her first yera teaching, and I dread that classroom every day. It is not because I hate math, I adore it. It is not because she does not tutor the material, she does and I understand it very well. It is the way we are treated. She is not student oriented. She sometimes ignores our questions, our hands raised. One time I wanted to ask her why I got something wrong, I asked her, she started to say something, then walked away. One time a student asked to go to the bathroom and she ignored him and walked away. I ask her if I will receive credit for something, she does not answer me. When students talk or do something silly, that they shouldnt have done, she mocks us by lowering ehr voice and talks as if she were retarted, swinging from side to side. There is one kid in the corner who doesnt fit in and is nice of self councious, and whenevr he tries to say something a little humourus, not terribly disruptive, she mocks him, says in her mocking, retarted voice "you tryin to be silly? huh, huh????" Theres one kid who sits in the back, doesnt say that much, she says "whats the matter? You think you're every that? Huh, (name of student? I know you think you're every that, but i dont look it. I dont look it at every." Today, i said something harmless, a little silly, maybe a tad rude, and she says. "You know what? I know you think you're mac daddy and every that, is that who you think you are? mac daddy? If I have a question on the homework, I literally fear going to ask her a question. Id rather receive it wrong. What should I do? I know that principal fairly well, what should my next step be? If I tell someone, the etacher will take it out on me. Can she be fired, shes on her first year? Sometimes Im not sure, she can be a little nice, but these instances, although there are more, stick out in my mind? What if I say something and she loses her job? please help....

Open Question: I set up a privacy password with McAfee Security Center and now my YIM isn't working. How can I fix it?

It was Sunday night and I was running through the program to make sure that it was working every right and I noticed that this thing called "Privacy Service" wasn't turned on. I turned it on and created a password, then it asked me to restart my computer. After I got my computer up and running again, my Yahoo Messenger wouldn't open. I tried to uninstall it and download it again, but it wouldn't let me. I kept getting the pop-up that asks you if you want to send an mistake report or not. However, last night, Yahoo Messenger opened and I was able to use it despite of the "Do you want to send an mistake report" pop-up coming up. What's worse is that McAfee updated itself and now I have $75 on my credit card. How can I fix this without uninstalling McAfee?

Open Question: Should I accept a refund?

I bought a M&C jacket online and two months later, found a tiny defect in it. I had never noticed it before as it was well concealed and I only wore the jacket a couple of times. Since I had spent over $900 on it, I decided to call the store about it. The SA I spoke to agreed to take it back for a full refund. When they emailed me the return instructions, they also told me to email/fax them when I mailed the jacket so they could refund me for the return shipping cost as it was due to no fault of my possess that I was returning it. I emailed them back saying that I was grateful that they were even taking a return and that they didn't need to worry about the shipping charges. I mailed the jacket yesterday and got another email from customer service today asking me to email/fax them (my Canada Post receipt?) so that they can refund my credit card for the shipping charges. I don't know if I should go ahead and email them. It cost me $39 to boat the jacket back, but considering the fact that they even took the return after so long, I sort of feel bad taking a refund on shipping cost also. Do you think I should?

Open Question: Canceling a credit card lowers your credit score?

Is this true? If so, why? I want to cancel my Capitol One card since I only used it to build up my credit so that I can be eligible for my bank's credit card and other things, plus the fact that their customer service is horrendous and other bad experiences with them. Now that I have my bank's, I have no use for Capitol One. My credit score is in the "good" status, slowly creeping it's way up. I definitely don't want to screw that up.

Open Question: What if every us citizen (over 18 & not in jail)got one million $ tax free. wouldn't that stimulate economy?

This question was posed a month ago. Yet it is a resolved question so I couldn't post a answer. So I'll start a new one. While this is a valid question that MANY have been asking. I personally think it is possible to do so. However, not with just a hand out of $1million dollars. We are seeing the down side to giving Hand outs and the abuse it causes by what's happening on Wall road. The way this could work would be by giving credits not a lump cash sum. Rather, a credit system. And it would be for US Citizens over the age of 18 not living overseas unless they are in the armed forces or working for a government agency and they must not be in Jail or have a Prior Felony history. At the start of the credit system, there would be a 2 year moratorium on price increases for anything purchased in the USA. This will create a two fold which I'll receive into later. The first draw the Citizen shall take wil be for housing. If they have an existing Mortgage, the moratorium shall state they must pay off their mortgage and stay in the home for at least 2 yrs or if they HAVE to move, they can only purchase a home of equal value. If the Citizen just lost their home to foreclosure, then they can take their credit and purchase a home at the same value as their home they lost to foreclosure. (if the home hasn't been sold by the bank, they must buy back their home from the bank) If they do not possess a home and are renting, they can purchase a home equal to the value that their income level would have allowed + $100,000.00. Or what a Mortgae payment would have been equal to their rent amount + $500.00. (which ever is the greater of the two) This will cease everyone from going out and buying homes way over what they normally would have been able to afford without the hand out. And the 2 yr moratorium on moving stands for everyone to insure that price gougeing will not take place. The second thing the US Citizen can do is draw a credit to pay off bad debt. Bad debt would be any medical bills, judgements, liens, repossessions, credit card debt. Then the 3rd draw would be to pay off their car. If their car is already paid off, or over 10 yrs old, they can purchase a new car of equal or comparative value at todays standards. In otherwords, If you possess a Honda Accord, you can't go out and buy a Brand New Cadillac Escalade. I think you can look where I'm going with this. The credit you take out isn't to overextend, rather receive you out of debt and stay in the lifestyle you are in and can afford without being strapped by mortgage, rent, car payments and bad debt. After every these credits are obtained, your employment can be evaluated. If you have lost your job, you can take a credit to go to school to reeducate yourself. If you are currently employed, the 2 yr moratorium stands. You stay employed so as not to disrupt the balance of everyone every of a sudden wanting to be Stock Brokers or MD's and no one wants to work at a retail store as a cashier. And hopefully after these 2 yrs, the economy will be back to an even keel that more jobs will be available so those out of work, or in school can obtain a decent job with decent pay. The 4th draw will be to create a retirement account. One that cannot be touched until the age of 65. The 5th draw will be to create a college fund for your child/kids that cannot be used for anything but college. The 6th draw will be to purchase health insurance. The credit will be extended for 2 yrs - giving you enough time to incorporate the payment into your budget, or hopefully have employer coverage by the 2 yr date. If you already have health insurance, you are exempt from this credit. Once everyone has a home, a car, bad debt paid off, health insurance, retirement funds, and college funds. Their credit is clip off. It's up to them to figure out how to keep from getting into overextended situations in the future. They can either take out home equity lines and run up their credit card debt, or be responsible and glad living within their means. This has been a tough 2-4 yrs for many. And I think if given this nice of opportunity - many will be content with their lifestyle and set goals and levels of success in steps, rather than with irresponsibile behaviour. Will this take monitoring%

Open Question: Trying to get a credit card w/ semi-bad credit?

Okay, so I am trying to receive a credit card so I can build my credit up. I've only tried one place and I got denied because I have an unpaid phone bill from when I turned 18... unfortunately It wasn't even MY phone bill, I never used it and I didn't know that it was below my name... lets just say bad parents. I'm now a college student and I am trying to find a bank that would actually let me let sign up for one. If anyone could help that would be great. Thank you.

Open Question: Will I have to have my credit checked to upgrade my phone from CPW to o2?

I'm hoping to upgrade my contract phone this Sunday from Carphone Warehouse for an iPhone 3G, trouble is they said I will have to receive my account transferred to o2 and receive my bills from there. What I want to know is, will I have to go through credit checks again for this transfer? If I was upgrading within CPW I wouldn't have to I was told. I just tried ordering an iPhone as a new customer from o2 to test it and as I though, I was declined as I've had bad credit this year and only sorting it out now. Any ideas? I am in contract, but it's with o2 Carphone Warehouse. To receive the iPhone I have to be transferred to the 'official' o2 network. This is where I'm a bit confused how it will work as technically I should have the same number.

Open Question: Is it possible this case might get DISMISSED?

My pal stole her classmate's credit card and used it to buy textbooks at school (totaling 405 dollars). She was arrested by the campus police (at her college) but was later released on O.R. that night. She hired a lawyer. Her court date (arraignment date) was November 13th. However, the D.A.'s office told my lawyer they haven't received any of the files yet from the police. There is no information at every. Just nothing. Can this be possible? Is it possible her case will receive dismissed? It shouldn't take that long for a campus police (which is a tiny police station) to send the papers to the D.A. office, right? Or am I missing something here? If you don't think so, what is likely that will happen to her? We are both very worried, she is not a bad person..she just made a stupid mistake. For the record, the girl in her class forgives her, and isn't pressing charges, but she said it was also out of her hands what the police do. The incident happened October 16. The credit card company already reimbursed the victims card on October 17 or 18. She really isn't a bad person. She is seeing a therapist and has never done anything like this. It is her first offense and she has never done anything bad in her life. She couldn't afford textbooks for her school. She was wrong. But she is still a good person, I've known her every my life.

Resolved Question: How can I compensate for bad credit?

I have really bad credit, and I am looking to move out (renting, not buying) with two other people in the next two months. As of now I have a steady job, and most of my bills that are in collections are medical bills. I'm not sure if this matters. Because of my credit, the Realtor who is showing us townhouses this weekend asked me to put together a package of my credit report, and any kinds of letters that would help me plead my case. I know I am not the only person who will be signing the lease, but I'd like for my future roommates not to be the only ones who have a good case of why the landlord should rent to us. I was told since I have been making good on my payments only the past 3 months by my bank that they cannot write me a letter of recommendation, but I can print out my statement that says I am up to date. What other kinds of letters do I need?

Open Question: What do you think of my movie report?

Can I receive a opinion on a paper I need to write about a movie? This is an extra credit paper and I put 4 things at the bottom that it needs to have to recive full credit. This is for a collage class. Thanks for any help Pirates of Silicon Valley An intriguing character study of two of the most extra ordinary individuals of our modern technological era. The movie is centered on the race between Apple and Microsoft in the computer world. It shows how they each fought to be the dominate computer company. The premise is that a group of young 'nerds' or geeks (Jobs, Gates) saw the potential of computers when others didn't. In this film, we look the rise of the personal computer from two of most important players of the era, and along the way, we are shown how deeply power and wealth corrupts how dog eat dog the computer industry can be and how much the world changed in just a decade. This movie shows capitalism at its best and worst. The movie flows from moment to moment, historical event to historical event, over the course of two decades, following the exploits of the two most influential men of the computer industry. Jobs was a marketing genius and Gates a technical genius and that the junior and middle and senior managers at Xerox and IBM, etc., didn't stand a chance. The most significant scene in the movie and in possibly the entire history of computers, is the deal Bill Gates made to sell IBM the operating system DOS, which he hadn’t even written yet. At what became Apple, Steve Wozniak was a mathematical prodigy and his pal Steve Jobs was a visionary, a man who literally saw the future in front of his eyes when Xerox demo’s their GUI & mouse for him. One of the best lines comes from an HP exec talking to Steve Wozniac "Why would the average person ever want a computer?" The dual narration is brilliant, using the Steve Wozniak character to narrate the Apple story, while the Steve Ballmer character narrates the Microsoft side of things. This movie was well done for a smaller budget movie. There are very appropriate songs and soundtrack for the story. Knowing that you're watching a story about real people makes it every the more fascinating. I think at the end, we are really left hanging, partly because the film ends when things start to receive really interesting. Pirates of Silicon Valley is a remarkable look into the worlds of Microsoft and Apple Computers. This story is fascinating for both entertainment, and historical value and is a must look for anyone who uses a computer. 1. Open Question: The flashlight problem?

well, ive already have a hunch about the answer to this problem, but i wanna look other peoples answers. its extra credit for my statistics class, so it doesnt really matter, just for fun. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The flashlight problem the following problem allegedly is part of the Microsoft employee entrance exam. i dont beleive it. however, it is a very interesting problem that doesnt require any high-degree algebraic number theory to solve. The Beatles have only 17 minutes left to receive to their van so they can make it to thier next concert. to receive to their van, they hvae to cross a narrow bridge that only two of them can be on at a time. to make matters even worse, it is pitch black out and they only have a single flashlight with them. the flashlight must be walked across the bridge; it cannot be thrown.* it takes each of the beatles a different amount of time to cross the bridge, as noted: Paul's rate: 1 minute Johns Rate: 2 minutes Ringos rate: 5 minutes Georges rate: 10 minutes Any pair of the Beatles who walk across must walk at the slower ones pace. for example, if john and ringo walked together, it would take 5 minutes. Explain how the "Fab-Four" can receive across the bridge in the allotted 17 minutes in order to make it on time for their next concert! * in general, no "tricks" are used to solve the problem. You CANT have them swim, steer the van over and turn on the headlights, ride on each other's shoulders, build a new bridge, or any other tom-foolery. quit your belly-aching and just solve the problem ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ i know it says to just solve it, but like i said before, i just want to hear other peoples answers, so i can compare..

Open Question: Thinking about and accounting degree. Is it a bad idea?

Ok, so I'm 31. I only have like 42 credits currently. I have a 12 year old son who I stayed at home with for most of his childhood. I've gone to school off and on. I went to devry for one semester a long time ago and have gone off an on to a local university. At one point I took a class at a tech institute in hopes of pursuing a rad tech degree but then decided, the medical field is definitely not for me. ANYWAY. I'm obviously sporadic and I'm certainly unorganized. I have horrible credit and have nice of just screwed off a lot. And YET, I'm thinking about majoring in accounting. Does this seem crazy? My reasoning is that I just want something that is practical and factual. Something I can make a decent living at. I figure with accounting, there is nothing gutwretchingly wrong about my decision that will make me change my mind. I also thought that focusing on this degree will actually help me to become more organized. I'm also nice of an anxious person. Ok, so let me have it. Any opinions? *an* accounting degree
